Antique and Vintage Photo Restoration

Step back in time with our antique and vintage photo restoration services. From fragile daguerreotypes and tintypes to early silver gelatin prints, each photograph tells a unique story of the past. Over the years, these treasures may have suffered from tarnishing, fading, abrasion, or even breakage, but with our expert restoration techniques, we can bring them back to life.

For the restoration of this daguerrotype we took a minimalist approach – we lightened the image overall, and while we removed the heaviest surface damage, we retained much of the patina of age.

Early Photographs: 1840s-60s

The first ever photo was taken in the late 1820s in Paris. A decade later the Daguerrotype technique was perfected and in 1841 the very first photo was taken in Australia.

Early photographs were impressions made directly onto a light sensitive emulsion on glass plates, using fixed focal length cameras. The results are stunningly clear images which to this day retain an incredible clarity and quality. Early photographs reproduce beautifully, and are a pleasure to work with – on the rare occasions we encounter them.
